iPhone 12 Pro Camera vs iPhone 11 Pro Camera – Comparison Guide

One of Apple’s most popular products that’s used by millions of people all around the world is the iPhone. It’s an ongoing project – and Apple’s engineers work tirelessly around the clock to create new improvements for the existing models. Today we will discuss the latest improvements in one of the phones’ (ironically) most important features – the camera. How does the iPhone 12 Pro camera compare to the iPhone 11 Pro camera? Are there any significant improvements? Read the rest of this review to find out.

iPhone 12 Pro Camera Configuration

The iPhone 12 Pro camera model has the exact same setup as the iPhone 11 Pro camera model – in that it features a telephoto lens, a wide lens, and an ultra-wide lens. However, the good thing is that there are measurable improvements across the board in the entire camera setup of the iPhone 12 Pro. As a new and welcome addition, there’s the LiDAR scanner that dramatically improves photos in dim lighting. There’s a novel image processor and this, with the combination of the new and improved A14 chip, brings in lots of improvement for the iPhone 12 Pro camera.

Front Camera Configuration

The front camera has the same hardware as that of the iPhone 11 Pro model – but there are a few noteworthy things to mention. These are in big part due to the aforementioned new and improved A14 chip – which introduces the following features: deep fusion, night mode selfies, Dolby Vision HDR video, smart HDR 3 – and other features that were unavailable in the previous model. What these features do is crystalize the image by incorporating the best shadows and light potential, pulling out the best possible pixels of multiple photo takes – for a high-quality photo that looks like real life.

Rear Camera

The rear camera is not without its fair share of improvements, as well. First, due to the f/1.6 aperture, the wide lens camera can now get 27% more light in, on average, which is a significant boost for the photos that are taken in dim light. The auto-stabilization feature is also improved. There’s the lens correction feature that can correct wide-lens photo distortion. The LiDAR scanner will help create night-time photos with measurably improved quality.

Low Lighting Camera Quality

There are some improvements done in this field – but they are subtle. The reason for this is that the iPhone 11 Pro already had an outstanding camera capable of capturing the essence of what the photo was about. So, any potential improvements in this field in the iPhone 12 Pro camera had to be small. The iPhone 12 Pro camera does what the iPhone 11 Pro camera was already good at – and makes it slightly better. It manages to capture outstanding shots with an incredible amount of detail and sharpness.

Portrait photos

The LiDAR scanner helps a lot in separating the foreground from the background in photos. How does this make a difference when taking portrait shots? Well, the iPhone 12 Pro camera is a lot better at separating the edges from the background – and this is especially visible when it comes to fur or hair. To round things off, the LiDAR scanner is utilized in night mode photos – for some outstanding-quality portrait shots in the dark.

Is it worth upgrading to iPhone 12 Pro based on the camera performance?

With all of the improvements and advancements done – the iPhone 12 Pro camera retains the title of world-class. But this is not to say that the iPhone 11 Pro camera was bad, or anything. It still holds up as one of the finest cameras on the market, even though its model is outdated with the advent of the iPhone 12 Pro. Regardless, if your goal is to take crystal-clear photos or videos – even in conditions with dim light – then you should go for the iPhone 12 Pro model, which offers a cutting-edge camera by any standards whatsoever.
