In its latest launch event, Galaxy unpacked held on Tuesday, February 11th at 2PM ET / 11AM PT, Samsung showed off stunning new phones including the Samsung Galaxy S20, S20 Plus, and S20 Ultra and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.
We thought the Z Flip was a second generation of the Samsung Galaxy Fold launched last year. New information on leaks of new products Samsung is making elucidates that the smartphone manufacturer is, in fact, making a second generation of the Samsung Galaxy Fold. The leaks look pretty good so far if there are to be believed.
The news comes courtesy of a supply chain source, who spurred out some of the features Samsung is working to include into the phone. Apparently Samsung is working to fix one of the biggest gripes I had with the OG Galaxy Fold, the display, both displays actually. The size of the front smaller display or the cover display will be slightly increased to 6.23 inches. It will take up almost the entire front, having a resolution of 2267 x 819 pixels and should stick to the conventional 60Hz refresh rate. On it will be a centered hole-punch selfie camera.

The larger inner screen will measure 7.6 inches from corner to corner up from a 7.3 inches in the previous model. The AMOLED will have a resolution of 2213 x 1689 pixels (about 372 PPI) and will support the 120Hz refresh rate just like the S20 series does.
Samsung is doing away with the giant notch this time, to be replaced by a new corner positioned single punch hole housing the camera, according to XDA Developers. The upcoming Samsung foldable’s screen will reportedly be covered with the same ultra-thin glass (UTG) used on the Z Flip but with a harder top plastic layer.
Another big news about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Flip 2 is the prospects of the S-Pen. Samsung looks to be working on enabling the use of the S-Pen on the device. That indicates Samsun’s confidence in the foldable display they are making which will otherwise cause scratch marks on the comparatively softer foldable screen.

It also means the display will be better than that on the Z Flip, which is tougher than the first generation fold, however, it’s still not great. We’ll just hope that this tweaked screen stands the test. Supposedly the Fold 2 would have a slot to house the stylus, like the Note series. XDA’s findings say that the front of the phone will also undergo a major facelift, doing away with the current design that is heavy on bezels.
On the camera front, Samsung might end up using those on the S20+. which are a 12MP primary sensor, accompanied by a telephoto, ultra-wide, and a ToF unit. Based on speculations, they might not be a newer flagship snapdragon than the current, purporting that the Fold 2 will come powered by Snapdragon 865.
The leaks suggest that the foldable would have a separate 5G variant in addition to a 4G model but that makes little sense to me since every version of the much less expensive S20 series has 5G support. Battery capacity is expected at a larger 4500mAh to 5000mAh, 45W charging, reverse wireless charging which may jump from 5W to 9W.
Samsung has made several iterations of a folding device that are actually being sold right now, putting them in a place to make the best folding smartphone yet.
